Florida's warm, humid climate means your lawn doesn't get a break — and neither do we. FL Landscape Co. provides weekly mowing service calibrated to your grass type, whether you have St. Augustine, Bahia, Zoysia, or Bermuda turf. We set our blades to the correct cutting height for each variety (St. Augustine typically at 3.5–4 inches, Bahia at 3–4 inches) to reduce heat stress and discourage weed germination in the thatch layer.

Every visit includes string trimming along fence lines, tree bases, landscape beds, and hardscape edges — areas where a mower can't reach but weeds and overgrowth love to hide. Clean edging along driveways, sidewalks, and curbs is done on a regular rotation to keep the defined lines that make a well-maintained property look sharp. We bag or blow clippings off hard surfaces so your driveway and walkways stay clean after every cut.

Shrub & Hedge Pruning

In Central Florida, ornamental shrubs don't slow down for winter. Plants like Viburnum, Loropetalum, Podocarpus, Ixora, and Wax Myrtle can put on significant growth even in the cooler months, and without regular shaping they quickly become overgrown, irregular, and harder to manage. Our maintenance crews prune and shape shrubs to maintain clean, intentional form — not just a rough chop.

We time harder pruning passes to avoid disrupting bloom cycles where possible. Ixora and Gardenia should not be heavily cut right before their bloom flush, while Ligustrum and Pittosporum can tolerate more aggressive shaping throughout the year. Knowing which plants to cut when is part of what separates a professional maintenance program from a DIY trimming pass. We also remove dead wood, cross-branching, and interior congestion to improve airflow — which matters in Florida's humid conditions where fungal disease can take hold quickly in dense, poorly circulated canopies.

Weed Control

Florida's climate is ideal for weeds. Nutsedge, dollarweed, chamberbitter, spurge, and Florida betony are among the most persistent offenders in Central Florida lawns and landscape beds. Managing them requires a combination of pre-emergent applications — applied before seeds germinate — and post-emergent treatments that target actively growing weeds without damaging desirable turf or ornamentals.

In turf areas, we apply granular or liquid pre-emergents on a schedule timed to seasonal weed pressure cycles. Crabgrass and annual bluegrass are best addressed in early fall before soil temperatures drop; summer broadleaf weeds need pre-emergent coverage applied in late winter. In landscape beds, pre-emergent under mulch significantly reduces germination pressure. We treat actively growing weeds with targeted post-emergent products selected for the weed species and the surrounding plant material.

Fertilization

Central Florida's sandy soils are nutrient-poor by nature. Water and nutrients move through quickly, which means consistent fertilization isn't optional — it's what keeps your lawn and plants healthy, green, and resistant to pest and disease pressure. FL Landscape Co. follows a seasonal fertilization schedule appropriate for Florida's climate and turf types.

St. Augustine lawns in our area typically benefit from four to five fertilization applications per year, with nitrogen-heavy treatments in the spring and early summer growth flush, and lower-nitrogen, higher-potassium formulations going into fall to harden the plant before cooler weather. We use slow-release nitrogen sources where appropriate to reduce runoff and extend feeding duration.

We also observe Polk County and Orange County fertilizer blackout periods. Florida county ordinances restrict the application of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers during the rainy season — typically June 1 through September 30 in many Central Florida counties — to protect local waterways from nutrient runoff. Our team stays current on local restrictions and schedules applications accordingly so you stay compliant without having to track it yourself.

Mulch Refresh

Mulch does more than make landscape beds look clean — in Florida's heat, it's doing real work. A proper 3-inch layer insulates soil from temperature extremes, retains moisture between rain events, suppresses weed germination, and gradually breaks down to add organic matter to otherwise nutrient-depleted sandy soil. In Central Florida's dry season, moisture retention alone makes mulch a meaningful part of keeping ornamental plantings alive and healthy between irrigation cycles.

FL Landscape Co. monitors mulch depth during regular maintenance visits and recommends refreshes before beds become ineffective. We install primarily pine bark or eucalyptus mulch — both durable, locally available, and appropriate for Central Florida conditions. We pull mulch back from direct contact with plant stems and tree trunks to prevent moisture-related rot and pest harborage.

Seasonal Cleanup

The transition from wet season to dry season in late October and November brings leaf and debris drop from deciduous trees as well as spent tropical growth that needs to be cleared out. The wet season startup in late May and June brings explosive new growth that requires extra attention to keep pace.

Hurricane and tropical storm prep is also part of our seasonal service. Before a named storm, we can remove loose debris from the property, tie back large plantings, and identify any limbs or shrubs that present a hazard in high winds. Post-storm cleanup is handled promptly so your property recovers quickly. We handle ongoing debris management throughout the year — fallen palm fronds, seed pods, and the near-constant organic debris that accumulates in Florida landscapes.

Irrigation Checks During Maintenance Visits

Every maintenance visit includes a basic irrigation walkthrough. Our crews are trained to identify obvious system problems — broken or misaligned heads spraying onto hardscape, wet spots that indicate a line or valve issue, dry areas that suggest a zone isn't covering properly, and heads that have been clipped by mower decks. When we spot something, we flag it and let you know. Small problems get caught early — before a broken head wastes hundreds of gallons or a dry zone causes turf loss that's expensive to repair.
